The Story Behind the Painting

I spent much of my life in survival mode. Trauma began when I was a child, and for years I carried pain I didn't know how to put down. I tried to escape it, numb it, and outrun it.

But somehow, I survived every fire meant to consume me.

At 43, I got sober. I found God. And for the first time, I began to understand that my story did not have to end where my pain began.

The darkness and fire at the bottom of this painting are the life I lived through. The gold above is the life I fought to reach.

I cannot give the little girl I was a different beginning.
But I can give the woman she became a beautiful ending.

The fire didn't take me.
It made me gold.
