Our Approach

At PEHT, we utilize The 3 E approach: Educate, Embrace, and Empower.

We educate communities to recognize and prevent trafficking, embrace survivors with compassionate care, and empower them to rebuild their lives with confidence and independence.

At PEHT, we are dedicated to educating direct service providers—such as social workers, attorneys, and law enforcement—and the broader community about human trafficking. Our training programs focus on identifying, preventing, and understanding this complex issue.

We offer two types of free educational opportunities:

Community Awareness Trainings: Designed to raise awareness and understanding among the general public.

Professional Education Programs: Tailored for those working directly with individuals impacted by human trafficking.

Our trainings cover a range of critical topics, including:

  • Trauma-Informed Interviewing Techniques and Legal Practices

  • Human Trafficking 101

  • Understanding Domestic Human Trafficking and Victimology

  • Legal Remedies for Survivors

By providing these resources, we aim to equip individuals and professionals with the knowledge and tools to combat trafficking and support survivors.

We embrace and support both residential and community-based survivors by providing comprehensive, wraparound services at no cost.

Residential survivors work closely with case managers, meeting weekly or as needed, to set and track personalized goals in health, personal development, education, and employment. This ongoing support fosters growth and healing through each phase of recovery.

For survivors unable or not ready to join our residential program, we offer community-based case management. All survivors receive referrals to essential community services, including food, medical, dental, and vision care; mental health therapy; substance misuse treatment; education and job training; legal guidance; and transportation assistance.

To address needs not covered by community resources, survivors can access the "Survivor Assistance Fund." Upon completing PEHT's community-based program, survivors may also be eligible for continued support on a case-by-case basis, such as referrals, short-term housing, or psycho-educational groups.

Our social enterprise, The PEHT Shop, is a distinctive part of our survivor programming. It empowers survivors by providing vital economic opportunities, fostering lasting personal growth alongside their recovery journey.

At The PEHT Shop, survivors create and sell handcrafted products while benefiting from paid employment, access to banking services, financial counseling, and assistance in obtaining identification and work authorization. These opportunities lay the foundation for economic independence.

Survivors also receive on-the-job training in essential skills such as time management, computer proficiency, résumé and interview preparation, and financial planning through a savings match program. Additionally, they can access external vocational training to further enhance their career prospects.

Through their work at The PEHT Shop, survivors gain more than just income—they develop practical skills, self-confidence, and a renewed sense of purpose within a supportive environment. This foundation empowers them to achieve long-term stability and independence.
