The Story Behind the Painting
Nothing is always as it seems.
Even something as simple as color can be seen differently from one person to another. What looks like darkness to one person may hold light for someone else. What looks like chaos may actually be the beginning of healing.
While painting this canvas, I struggled. As I moved through the layers of blue, waves of emotion came over me—some heavy, some painful, some difficult to understand. I kept painting through them.
And then, there was calm.
At one point, I looked at the canvas and felt as though it was looking back at me. We made eye contact. In that moment, I saw more than paint. I saw the storms I had survived, the darkness I had walked through, and the strength it took to reach calmer waters.
The blue was no longer sadness.
The blue was survival.
This painting reminds me that even in our darkest moments, the storm does not last forever. There is another side. There is calm. There is healing. There is hope.
I survived my storms. And this blue carries a promise for every survivor still fighting through theirs: you can survive yours, too.
