What We Do

PEHT serves all survivors of human trafficking regardless of nationality, gender identification, age, or type of trafficking experience. Join us in supporting them.

OUR PHILOSOPHY OF CARE

The Partnership to End Human Trafficking (PEHT) is unique as a service delivery organization because of our use of the Sanctuary Model® of Trauma-Informed Care.

The Sanctuary Model ® is a guide for creating an organizational culture that considers the way that trauma, adversity, and chronic stress influence an individual’s behavior. This model offers a shared language for naming and mitigating that stress, thereby creating an environment that is conducive to healing.

The Sanctuary Model ® is defined by its commitment to the following:

  • Nonviolence
  • Emotional intelligence
  • Social learning
  • Democracy
  • Open communication
  • Social responsibility
  • Personal growth and change

"I want to send a message out there to any of you that believe that human trafficking or sex trafficking is only possible by kidnapping or what you see on TV. This happens in some cases but definitely not all. I am a survivor of sex trafficking. I got involved when I was down to my lowest point. And that's what traffickers look for. They look for people who are struggling, broke, homeless and broken. That's where I was. Then either a man or their girls will come and promise me a place to stay, beautiful things, friends, parties, and many more. Who wouldn't want that? So yes, I went." - Azalea

THE FIGHT TO END HUMAN TRAFFICKING

PEHT’s work to eliminate labor trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation in this region uses a sustainable, long-term model of housing, employment, and education.

EDUCATE | EMBRACE | EMPOWER

PEHT educates direct service providers (i.e., social workers, attorneys, and law enforcement professionals) and the surrounding community about the presence of human trafficking — including how to identify, prevent, and avoid it.

We offer two types of free educational opportunities:

  • Trainings designed for general community awareness

  • Professional education opportunities

Topics include:

  • Trauma-Informed Interviewing Techniques and Legal Practices

  • Human Trafficking 101

  • Understanding Domestic Human Trafficking and Victimology

  • Legal Remedies for Survivors

PEHT serves residential and community-based survivors, offering wraparound supportive services that are free of charge. Residential survivors meet with their case manager weekly (if not more often) to identify their unique goals for health, personal growth, education, and employment. Survivors and their case managers then work together to assess their progress through each phase of the residential recovery and the healing process.

PEHT also offers community-based case management services to trafficking survivors who may not be ready or able to join our residential program. All of the survivors we serve receive referrals to community-based services that are critical to their healing such as:

  • Food, Medical, Dental, and Vision Services

  • Mental Health Therapy

  • Substance Misuse Services

  • Education, Job Training, Legal Guidance, and Transportation Assistance

Survivors also have access to a “Survivor Assistance Fund” which covers the costs of service and supplies that are not funded or offered by existing community resources.

After completing our community based program survivors are always eligible for follow-up services with PEHT. These are offered on a case-by-case basis and might include continued access to our community referral network, participation in our short-term housing program, and/or participation in psycho-educational groups.

PEHT’s social enterprise, “The PEHT Shop,” is a unique feature of our survivor programming. Here, we offer survivors the economic opportunity that is essential for lasting personal change right alongside recovery.

Our pet product retail company currently makes and sells products that are handcrafted by individuals whose vulnerability makes them potential targets for traffickers or those who have survivor trafficking. The PEHT Shop provides survivors with paid employment, access to a bank account, financial counseling, and assistance securing an ID — and authorization to work.

PEHT also provides on-the-job training such as time management, computer skills, resume and interview prep, a savings match, and additional opportunities for external vocational training.
